Meet the Team
-

Dr. Sarah Westrick (she/her/hers)
Assistant Professor, westris@wfu.edu
Having never grown out of her “obsessed with animals” phase, Sarah is fascinated by all things animal behavior - from neuroendocrine mechanisms to evolutionary trends. When she’s not staring at squirrels or frogs, Sarah can be found trying out yet another creative hobby or absorbed in a good book.
-

Emily Jernigan
Lab Manager, jernige@wfu.edu
Emily comes to us with an eclectic background of: bugs, dogs, and zoo outreach (just to name a few). After many years working with dead insects, she is excited to be working with live animals again! When not in the lab you can usually find Emily playing outside with her family, reading, or watching anime.
-

Olivia Rose Hamilton (she/they)
PhD Student, hamio25@wfu.edu
With a love for both field work and frogs, Rose is excited to embark on new research adventures for her PhD! Having earned her master’s studying female mate choice, she is now looking forward to investigating the influence of hormones on animals’ social interactions. Outside of the lab, Rose loves to tend to their plants, pets, and countless creative projects.

Matt Huber
Undergraduate Researcher
As a pre-med student, biology major, and all-around animal lover, Matt loves learning about how critters perceive and interact with the world. Outside the lab, Matt spends his free time making crafts, hiking, and reading comic books.

Eugene
Lab Mascot
After many years of service to science, Eugene retired and now has the arduous lab task of keeping Sarah company in her office, inspiring new research questions, and greeting lab guests. Eugene lives with Edna and is a dyeing poison frog (D. tinctorius).
-

Edna
Lab Mascot
Edna is retired from science but that hasn’t slowed her down. Edna can’t get enough fruit flies and has a passion for springtails. As the more bold of the two, Edna mostly spends her days at the door begging for food. Edna lives with Eugene and is a dyeing poison frog (D. tinctorius).
